Canoe holiday in Småland, Sweden
|
The Nöttja Canoe Centre at Bolmån welcomes families and small groups, if booked
in advance it may also receive smaller school classes and clubs. At the centre, a
camping ground is available free of charge for all our customers. It is beautifully
situated and less than 20 minutes canoeing downstream from the small fishing and
bathing lake Exen.
The first 18 km downstream offers canoeing without obstacles so no lifting is required.
It takes you down the Bolmån river and out into the water systems of the river Lagan.
Bolmån makes part of the wellknown canoeing route "Lagaleden", where camping grounds
with toilets, fresh water supply and fire places with firewood have been set up for
your convenience. You pay for your stay with camping cheques that can be bought at
most canoe centres. If you are fond of outdoor life and canoeing you may want to
explore the whole length of "Lagaleden". It reaches the sea at Laholm in the south of
Halland.
The four lakes Bolmen - Unnen - Kösen - Exen
If you would like to start your trip elsewhere, why not choose the bigger lake Bolmen.
The canoes are launched in the south part of the lake, about 13 km north of Nöttja, and
you go from Bolmen through Kösen and then southwards into the Bolmån river. Here you pass
the water falls "Kvarnafallen", a rather demanding series of falls (not to be
recommended) and down to the Nöttja Canoe Centre.
Another suggestion is to continue downstreams along the "Lagaleden" which begins in
the lake Bolmen. There are several camping grounds along its shores as well as on the
Viking island of Bolmsö. You could also make a detour, or choose to start your trip,
in Unnen, a sister lake to Bolmen.
The choice is yours
You can also make up your own route, preferable in the water systems of Bolmen-Lagan.
The "Lagaleden" is one of the oldest water ways in Sweden and flows through Småland
and Halland. For experienced canoers the journey along the whole length will only take
two to three days but nature lovers and beginners in canoeing may easily spend a week
or more along the route.
At the Nöttja Canoe Centre we will be glad to advise you about suitable routes and
inform about passages where canoe-lifting is required. If you wish you can also hire
a canoe-cart to avoid heavy lifts.
